Description: Obverse: In the center there is an image of woman head, personification of the Italian republic. Circular inscription: REPUBLICA ITALIANA, between words there are six asterisks. Reverse: In a center there is the part of Earth with the map of Europe. Map of Europe with the mistake – Germany is parted by German Federal Republic and GDR, although the two states became reunified again in Octobers, 3 1990. Bimetal. Metal of insert – brass, metal of ring – copper-nickel. Diameter – 27 mm. Weight – 8.9 g. Edge – incised.
The coin was withdrawn from circulation since March, 1, 2003, after a new national monetary unit – the euro – was introduced.
