200th ANNIVERSARY OF NIKOLAI GOGOL.

N.V. Gogol (April 1, 1809 – March 4 (February 21), 1852) is a famous writer born in the Ukraine, who was closely connected with the culture of 'Little Russia' (Malorossiya), but always wrote in Russian and on different stages of his creative development invariably addresses to the theme of Russia.

Obverse: The portrait of the Queen Elizabeth II. Semicircular inscriptions: QUEEN ELIZABETH II (above) and 1 DOLLAR TUVALU 2009 (beneath).
Reverse: There is a coloured image of the N.Gogol accompanied by the inscription '200th Anniversary Nikolai Gogol 1809 – 2009'. To the right – three of his famous characters: Taras Bulba from the novel of the same name; Khlestakov, from the play The Government Inspector; and Patsyuk, from the short story Christmas Eve.
999 standard silver, diameter – 40.60 mm, thickness – 4.00 mm, weight – 31.135 g. Mintage: 6 000. Designer of obverse: Raphael Maklouf.
The coin was struck at the Perth Mint (Australia).
