Description: Jubilee coin '300th Anniversary of the Battle of Poltava'.
Occurring on the 27 June 1709, the most famous battle of the Great Northern War resulted in a decisive victory by Peter the Great of Russia over Charles XII of Sweden. The outcome saw Russia emerge as one of the leading nations in Europe and marked the decline of Sweden as a Great Power.
Obverse: The portrait of the Queen Elizabeth II. Semicircular inscriptions: QUEEN ELIZABETH II (above) and 1 DOLLAR TUVALU 2009 (beneath).
Reverse: The reverse combines struck and coloured elements portraying Tsar Peter I in the midst of the historic battle. There are the inscriptions: THE BATTLE OF POLTAVA 1709 – 2009 and 300TH ANNIVERSARY and the Mint’s distinctive 'P' mintmark.
999 standard silver, diameter – 40.60 mm, thickness – 4.00 mm, weight – 31.135 g. Mintage: 10 000.
The coin was struck at the Perth Mint (Australia).
