55TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE GREAT VICTORY 1941 – 1945.
For the Russian people the war against the Fascist Germany became from the start a truly patriotic war.
The four years of the Great Patriotic War (as the war waged by Russia against the Fascist Germany is called in this country) included the heroic defence of the Brest fortress, the hard-fought defensive battles waged by the Soviet army in the early days of the war, the march past of troops on November 7, 1941, on Red Square wherefrom they went straight to the frontline, the siege of Leningrad, the evacuation of industrial enterprises and people from the frontline regions to the east of the country, hard work for victory in the rear, the victories won by Soviet troops at Moscow, Leningrad and Kursk, the crossing of the Dnieper River, the defence of the Caucasus, the large-scale offensive operations mounted by Soviet troops in 1944 – 1945 and the ultimate liberation of the Soviet Union and European countries from the German invaders.

Description: Commemorative coin '55th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941 – 1945'. ('Battalion commander'). The coin is dedicated to 55th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941 – 1945.
Obverse: In the center there is the indication of the face value of the coin '10 РУБЛЕЙ' (10 RUBLES). Inside of the figure '0' – hidden inscription of the '10 РУБЛЕЙ' (10 RUBLES) visible by turns only on changing the angle of vision. In the lower part of the disc – the mint trade mark. In the upper part of the ring – the inscription along the rim: 'БАНК РОССИИ' (BANK OF RUSSIA), in the lower one – the date '2000', to the left and to the right – stylized twigs of plants going over to the disc.
Reverse: The picture of a soldier and an outline of the five-pointed star going over from the disc to the ring. In the upper part of the ring – the inscription along the rim: '55 ЛЕТ ВЕЛИКОЙ ПОБЕДЫ 1941 – 1945' (55TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE GREAT VICTORY 1941 – 1945). Image of the solder and outline of five-pointed stars. The figure of Alexei Gordeevich Eremenko (1906 – 1943), the Battalion commander of 22 shelf 4-th shooting division. The image from photo of the front correspondent of M.V. Alpert (1889 – 1980), made in a middle of July, 1942 in fights under Voroshilovgrad (nowadays Lugansk, Ukraine).
Bimetal. Metal of insert – brass; metal of ring – cupronickel. Diameter – 27 mm., weight – 8.26 g. Edge – with milled sectors, incuse double lettering 'ДЕСЯТЬ РУБЛЕЙ' (TEN RUBLES), line interrupted by asterisks. Put in circulation since 04.05.2000. Artist: A.V. Baklanov, sculptor: A.S. Kunats.
