The coin is dedicated to the 'Academician Vernadsky', Ukrainian antarctic scientific centre (its former name was 'Faradey'), which is located in the Galindes island of Argentine Archipelago. Weight - 16.54 g., diameter - 35.0 mm., edge - incised. Artists: Vladymyr Taran, Alexander Kharuk, Sergey Kharuk; sculptors: Vladymyr Atamanchuk, Roman Chaikovsky. Put in circulation since January 16, 2006. Mintage: 60 000. The coin was struck at the National Bank of Ukraine Mint. Country or town: Ukraine

The coin is dedicated to the city of L'viv, one of the leading economic, scientific and cultural centers of the state. The first mention of the state dates back to 1256. The city was founded by the king Danylo of Halych and was named in honor of his son Lev. Since 1272 L'viv was the capital city of Halych and Volyn principalities.
