Description: Commemorative coin 'The Ostroh Bible'. The coin is dedicated to the Ostroh Bible (1581), an outstanding relic of book-printing – the first unabridged printed edition of the Bible in the canon Slavic language. The duke Kostiantyn Ostrozkyi was the initiator and Maecenas of the Ostroh Bible creation, who invited to Ostroh Ivan Fedorov, a book-printer to implement his idea. The edition of this Bible, containing 1256 pages amounted to 1500 books.
Obverse: There is depicted a conventionalized fragment of the first page ornamental headband of the Ostroh Bible, against which background above there is the small National Emblem of Ukraine, below the headband there are placed the inscriptions: НАЦІОНАЛЬНИЙ / БАНК УКРАЇНИ (NATIONAL BANK OF UKRAINE), beneath – 100 ГРИВЕНЬ (100 HRYVNIAS) and the coin mintage year, metal designationl, the coin mass and the Mint logotype of the National Bank of Ukraine.
Reverse: There are depicted conventionalized portraits of Ivan Fedorov and Kostiantyn Ostrozkyi holding the opened book and there are placed the conventionalized inscriptions: ОСТРОЗЬКА БІБЛІЯ (THE OSTROH BIBLE) (above) and 1581 (beneath).
900 gold. Weight – 31.1 g., diameter – 32 mm., edge – sector corrugation. Artists: Vladymyr Taran, Alexander Kharuk, Serhii Kharuk, sculptor: Sviatoslav Ivanenko.
Put in circulation since November 23, 2007. Mintage: 4 000. The coin was struck at the National Bank of Ukraine Mint.
