CHANGE COINS OF 'THIRD REICH' (1933 – 1944).

Monetary system: 1 Reichsmark = 100 Reichspfennig.
Coins in circulation: 1, 2, 5, 10, 50 Reichspfennig.

For military needs, since 1940 all coins of a coin denomination 1, 5 and 10 Reichspfennig from bronze and aluminium-bronze alloy have started to strike exclusively from zinc. All coins of 1, 2 Pfennig (1873 – 1916), 1, 2 Rentenpfennig (1923 – 1924 and 2 Reichspfennig (1924 – 1940), were legal tender since the day of they were issued up to February 28, 1942. Fuhrer’s Decree 'All for front, all for a victory' was declared then.
By the way, the nickel coin of 1 Reichsmark denomination (1933 – 1939) has been withdrawn from circulation since February 29, 1940; nickel coins of 50 Reichspfennig denomination (1 type: 1927 – 1938, 2 type: 1938 – 1939) has been withdrawn from circulation later, July 30, 1940. All these coins were not in circulation in occupied territory of Ukraine and Crimea.

Description: Obverse: The arms – the eagle with the open wings holds in paws a wreath from oak leaves with a swastika. In the bottom – there is an semicircular conventionalized Gothic inscription: DEUTSCHES REICH. 1939.
Reverse: Face value '1' with oak leaves, between leaves there is mint mark 'À' (variants: A, Â, D, E, F, G, J). Above it there is the semicircular conventionalized Gothic inscription: REICHPFENNIG.
Diameter – 17.5 mm. Weight – 2 g. Edge – smooth, thickness – 1.2 mm. Mintage: 97 541 000. Mint mark – Berlin (À).
This type of coin has been struck in 1936 – 1940. Withdrawn from circulation since 28.02.1942.

Reverse: Face value '1' with oak leaves, between leaves there is mint mark 'À' (variants: A, Â, D, E, F, G, J). Above it there is the semicircular conventionalized Gothic inscription: REICHPFENNIG.
Diameter – 17 mm. Weight – 1.8 g. Edge – smooth, thickness 1.3 mm. Mintage: 223 948 000. Mint mark – Berlin (À).
This type of coin has been struck in 1940 – 1945. The coin was in circulation in the Ukraine since June, 1 till October 1944.

Diameter – 20 mm. Weight – 3.33 g. Edge – smooth, thickness 1.5 mm. Mintage: 37 348 000. Mint mark – Berlin (À).
This type of coin has been struck in 1936 – 1940. Withdrawn from circulation since 28.02.1942.

Diameter – 18 mm. Weight – 2.5 g. Edge – incised (84 corrugations), thickness 1.5 mm. Mintage: 54 012 000. Mint mark – Berlin (À).
This type of coin has been struck in 1936 – 1939.
