Description: Jubilee coin '170 years of the Kyiv National University'. Series 'Higher educational establishments'. The coin is dedicated to the Kyiv National University named after Taras Shevchenko – one of the leading centres of education and science. Founded in 1834 this institution has made very significant contribution to the development of the Higher School, science and culture and to raising spirituality of the Ukrainian people. The University is associated with scientific activities of many well-known scientists, as well as with formation and development of distinguished scientific ideas.
Obverse: There is a depiction of a composition in the form of a laser disk, in the centre of which there is the small State Emblem of Ukraine; on both sides of which there are objects and formulas symbolizing various sciences and the following inscriptions: УКРАЇНА (above in semicircle), 2004, 5 ГРИВЕНЬ (beneath), as well as the designation of metal, and its pure weight and the Mint logo of the NBU.
Reverse: There is the building of the university (1837 – 1843, architect V.Beretti) and the following inscriptions: КИЇВСЬКИЙ НАЦІОНАЛЬНИЙ (above in semicircle), under it: 1834 and УНІВЕРСИТЕТ ІМЕНІ ТАРАСА ШЕВЧЕНКА (beneath in three lines).
925 standard silver. Weight – 15.55 g., diameter – 33 mm., edge – incised. Artists: Larysa Koren', Sergey Beliyaev; sculptor: Vladymyr Atmanchuk.
Put in circulation since August 26, 2004. Mintage: 7 000. The coin was struck at the National Bank of Ukraine Mint.

Description: Jubilee coin '200 years to Kharkiv National University named after V.N. Karazin'. Series 'Higher educational establishments'. The coin is dedicated to Kharkiv National University. The university was founded in 1804 on the initiative of a famous enlightener V.N. Karazin.
Obverse: There is a symbolic depiction of of the Solar system as a part of the Universe, which contains a 'knowledge planet', above it and to the right, there is a semicircular inscription: РОЗУМ – ЗНАННЯ – МАЙБУТНЄ; above to the left – the small State Emblem of Ukraine and inscriptions: 5 ГРИВЕНЬ / УКРАЇНА 2004, above the coin face value, designation of metal, its pure weight and the Mint logo of the NBU.
Reverse: At the upper part of the coin field, the modern building of the university is depicted, at the coin lower part there is a mirror image of the old building of the university and a circular inscription: ХАРКІВСЬКИЙ НАЦІОНАЛЬНИЙ УНІВЕРСИТЕТ ІМ. В.Н. КАРАЗІНА – 200 РОКІВ.
