Kingdom of Bavaria.
KINGDOM OF BAVARIA.
Bavaria – is a region located in the southeast of Germany and the on of the largest states of Germany by area. Its capital is Munich.
The Bavarians emerged in a region north of the Alps, originally inhabited by the Celts, which had been part of the Roman provinces of Raethia and Noricum.
Bavaria was: the Duchy in 548 – 788; the Kingdom in 788 – 907; the Duchy in 907 – 1180 and 1180 – 1623; the Principality in 1623 – 1805, and the Kingdom in 1805 – 1918.
In 1180 the Duchy of Bavaria was given to the Count of Wittelsbach by the emperor. He is the ancestor of all who ruled in Bavaria until 1918. The title of king was granted to Bavaria in 1805. Bavaria joined the North German Confederation in 1870 and the German Empire in 1871.
The rulers, who struck coins (in Germany Empire):
• Reign: 10.03.1864 – 13.06.1886 – Ludwig II (born: 25.08.1845 – died: 13.06.1886),
• Reign: 13.06.1886 – 05.11.1913 – Otto I (born: 27.04.1848 – died: 11.10.1916).
Otto reign functions were carried out by the following prince regents:
– Reign: Prince Luitpold, son of Ludwig I, Prince regent from 1886 until 1912,
– Ludwig III, Prince regent from 1912 until 1913.
• Reign: 05.11.1913 – 07.11.1918 – Ludwig III (born: 07.01.1845 – died: 18.10.1921).
On February 20, 1868, in Vienna, Ludwig married Maria Theresia, Archduchess of Austria-Este. She was the only daughter of the late Archduke Ferdinand Karl Viktor of Austria-Este.
In 1918 to 50th Anniversary of wedding have been struck
commemorative coin in 3 Mark, but
it wasn’t in circulation in Ukraine (mintage – 100 pieces).

This type of coin has been struck in 1876, 1877, 1880, 1883, was in circulation in Ukraine from end of April to the middle of November, 1918.
