The Czechoslovakian Republic was founded in October 28, 1918 with Tomas G. Masarik as President. In the Munich Agreement of 1938, the UK and France forced Czechoslovakia to cede the German-speaking borderlands to Nazi Germany despite existing treaties, in what is commonly known as part of the Western Betrayal. In 1939 the remainder ('rump') of Czechoslovakia was invaded by Nazi Germany and divided into the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia and the puppet Slovak State. Much of Slovakia and all of Zakarpatye (Subcarpathian Ruthenia) was annexed by Hungary. Poland occupied Zaolzie, an area with a Polish minority (October 1938). After World War II, prewar Czechoslovakia was re-established, with the exception of Zakarpatye, which was annexed by the Soviet Union and incorporated into the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic in November 22, 1945. In 23.03. 1945 were issued banknotes (dated 1944) printed by Soviet Goznak (Moscow) and Krasnaja Kama (Ural) for use in territory of the Czechoslovakia. Banknotes were introduced in denominations of 1, 5, 20, 100, 500 and 1000 korun. Soviet paper notes were in officially circulation in Zakarpatye area till 15.11. 1945.
