PRINCIPALITY OF REUSS ELDER LINE.

The Principality of Reuss Elder Line was a state in Germany, ruled by members of the House of Reuss. Its capital was Greiz.
Several different principalities of the House of Reuss which had previously existed had by the time of the formation of the German Confederation become part of the two remaining lines (the Elder and the Junior lines). Before then, they had been part first of the Holy Roman Empire, and then the Confederation of the Rhine.
The Counts Reuss of Greiz, Lower- and Upper Greiz, were elevated to princely status in 1778.
Its members bore the title Prince Reuss, Elder Line, or Prince Reuss of Greiz.
Similarly to the more numerous Reuss Younger Line, the male members of this house were all named 'Heinrich' and were numbered sequentially by birth, rather than by reign, the last series beginning with Heinrich I (born 1693) and ending with Heinrich XXIV (1878 – 1927).
The rulers, who struck coins (in Germany Empire):
• Reign: 1867 – 19.04.1902 – Heinrich XXII (born: 28.03.1846 – died: 19.04.1902),
• Reign: 19.04.1902 – 10.11.1918 – Heinrich XXIV (born: 20.03.1878 – died: 14.10.1927).
