Description: Commemorative coin 'Christianization of Kievan Rus'. '2000 Years of Christmas' series. The coin is dedicated to the 1020th anniversary of the Christianization of Kievan Rus, which gained a footing for Christianity to become the state religion.
Obverse: There is the Small National Emblem of Ukraine and the circular inscriptions НАЦІОНАЛЬНИЙ БАНК УКРАЇНИ (NATIONAL BANK OF UKRAINE) (above) and СТО ГРИВЕНЬ (ONE HUNDRED HRYVNIAS) (below) placed against the background of conventionalized ornament, between them there is the year of coin issue 2008 (on the right), designation of metal and its fineness, weight in fineness, as well as the logotype of the NBU Mint (on the left). In the coin center in the circle of conventionalized rays there is a cross and the semi-circular inscriptions ПРАВОСЛАВ’Я (ORTHODOXY) (above) and ІЗ КИЄВА ПО ВСІЙ РУСІ (FROM KYIV ALL OVER RUS) (below).
Reverse: There is a multi-figure composition of baptism with the inscription 988 / РІК (988 / YEAR) below and the semi-circular inscription – ХРЕЩЕННЯ КИЇВСЬКОЇ РУСІ (CHRISTIANIZATION OF KIEVAN RUS) above.
999 standard silver. Weight – 1000.0 g., diameter – 100.0 mm., edge – incised. Artists: Sviatoslav Ivanenko; sculptors: Vladymyr Atamanchuk, Sviatoslav Ivanenko.
Put in circulation since July 17, 2008. Mintage: 800. The coin was struck at the National Bank of Ukraine Mint.
